The COVID-19 pandemic has been expanding again, RISE Japan will continue to implement counter-measures and keep our school community safe. All of the staff at RISE Japan has been fully vaccinated at this time.

We appreciate your long term support and cooperation during this pandemic.

We apologize for the inconvenience caused by the recent closure of our school due to a report of COVID infection in our school. While there are various measures that can be taken, such as shortening, decentralizing, or reducing the length of the program in childcare facilities (kindergarten, nursery school, or after-school activities), RISE chose to close the program for a sufficient period of time so  we can establish a sustainable approach to keep our school community safe while maintaining a sense of normality during these times.

We would like to assure everyone that we are doing all the necessary measures to deal with COVID. We are staying proactive in our approach as we are concerned that overreacting could have a negative impact on the students.

For example, if a child is brought up for a year being told, “Don’t touch your friends,” there will be developmental concerns. When a child is crying, we hold them in our arms and tell them, “It’s okay”. Please understand that this is the time of childhood when children develop the social-emotional skills that will be vital for them throughout their lives, and so we want to do all the necessary practices that will nurture the student’s emotional and social wellbeing.

We do not take the risk of infection lightly, we would like to ask for everyone’s understanding to our approach and cooperation at this time, so that the time spent by your child at RISE will be a safe and happy one. However,  we understand that people will have differing outlooks about the pandemic and so ultimately we would like to leave the final decision to the parents to decide what would be best for you and your child’s safety in dealing with COVID.

<Request to all parents and guardians>

・Participation at the discretion of parents and guardians

Experts have pointed out that “everyone is at the risk of infection even if countermeasures are taken,” that “serious illness in children is rare,” that “people with pre-existing conditions, pregnant women, infant siblings, and those living with the elderly are at increased risk,” and that “there is concern about the harmful effects on children that will result from self-restraint.”

The significance of attending preschool and the concept of hygiene may vary greatly from family to family. Please make your final decision based on your own assessment of the advantages and disadvantages of group activities.

・Taking care of your health and a conservative approach

If you notice any change in the condition of not only your child, but you yourselves as well, such as a cold (sore throat, cough, fever, etc.), please refrain from coming to school and monitor the progress.

Please contact us immediately if you are tested positive or became close contact.

・Support for temperature checks

Please tell us your child’s temperature when arriving at school (using Codmon).

If you forget, we will check their temperature at RISE.

Please refrain from participating with temperatures of 37.5℃ or over.

Please do not forget to check your temperature in advance before coming to school.

・Acceptance and handover at pick-up and drop-off

We aim to avoid crowding and close contact spaces.

For the time being please refrain from receiving a feedback from the teacher after class. (Please let us know if you would like to talk.)

・Mask wearing by children

We believe that masks are not necessary for students under the age of Pre-Kindergarten (based on the Japanese Pediatric Association’s statement that “They lead to increased risk for children under 2 years old”).

For Kindergarten and above, masks will be worn at the request of parents. There is a risk of heat stroke, so please consider whether this is necessary. (We may ask the children to take off their masks outdoors).

<School Countermeasure>

・Health management by instructors and staff

Carry out temperature checks. Additionally, if any symptoms of a cold (sore throat, cough, fever, etc.), do not attend school.

Utilization of online meetings.

・Basic infection prevention

(1) Hand washing, (2) wearing a shield mask (wear a mask when playing outside to reduce the risk of infection), (3) disinfection of areas and equipment that we use frequently, and (4) regular ventilation.

・Countermeasures for the “Three C’s”

Given the government recommendation that the “three elements should not overlap”, the main measure is to avoid closed spaces is “regular ventilation”.

For crowded places and close contact, where we should keep a distance, hand washing will be encouraged after contact activities. On the other hand, please understand that perfect social distance (e.g. maintaining 2m) is impossible.

Necessary contact shall take place during school activities (changing diapers, holding a crying child, etc.) .

We will also provide for necessary social and emotional support (contact with friends, talking during meals, etc.)

We shall balance our approach with a consideration of other risks (heat stroke, crime prevention, etc.).

・Other support

If the situation changes, and we receive a request from the national or metropolitan government, we will respond quickly and appropriately.

If an infection comes to light in the school, we will contact you as soon as possible.

There is a possibility of a second or third wave, so we believe that a sustainable response may be necessary for the long term (1-2 years or more).

This virus is extremely infectious and we believe that anyone can be infected, even if all countermeasures are taken.

At RISE, we believe that building a society where infected people are not discriminated against is very important for the future of our children, and we sincerely hope we can help bring that about.
