どのくらいの期間で子ども達は英語を話すようになるのですか？
How long will it take for my child to Learn English?
一般的に、アフタースクールで6か月くらい学ぶと学習効果が出てきます。キンダーガーテンレベルで1年間フルタイムのイマージョンプログラムを受けると、子供たちは実用的なレベルを習熟し、コミュニケーションすることができるようになります。なお、子供が第二か国語をマスターするためには数千時間が必要と言われています。
Generally, a child will need 6 months in a part-time after school program to see significant improvement. After a year in a full-time immersion program at the pre-k or kindergarten levels, a student will be able to communicate with a functional level of proficiency. Children need thousands of hours to master a second or foreign language.

What makes RISE special compared to a general English learning center?
RISE Japanは単に子供たちの英語力を向上させるだけでなく、世界各国で実績のある英語イマージョンプログラムをベースにグローバルで活躍できる人材を育てることを目指しています。
RISEのプログラムは、数学や理科や社会といった科目をベースにしながら、テキストとインタラクティブホワイトボードを効果的に統合して作られています。また、テーマごとに設計されているプログラムを進めることで、生徒は学んだことの復習をしながら持続的に学習を進めていくことができます。そしてすべてのRISEの先生たちは極めて高いスキルを持っており、そのためのトレーニングを積んでいます。単に英会話が進んで終わるのではなく、ビギナー向けにはPhonicsプログラム、そして基本が出来上がったらストーリーベースのReadingプログラム、そしてサブジェクトベースのCoreプログラムと、生徒のレベルに合わせた難易度・クラスを提供しています。またフルタイムキンダーガーテンでは、日本語を学ぶクラスや日本人としてのアイデンティティを身につけるカリキュラムもあります。
RISE Japan aims to not only improving children’s English abilities but to develop children’s abilities and potential as Global citizens.
The Rise program is fully integrated with print and Interactive-Whiteboard technology and features English, in addition to content-based learning: math, science, and social studies. The Rise program incorporates theme-based learning with regular review so that students remember what they learn and continue to apply it. In addition, all RISE teachers and managers are highly qualified and trained. The RISE program is not only about speaking English but includes classes which are strictly-structured according to the children’s English level and their ability. For example there are a “Phonics Program” for beginners and after mastering the fundamentals, a story-based “Reading Program”, and a subject-based “Core Program”. In our full-time Kindergarten, children will learn the Japanese language and cultural identity.

英語のみならずself confidenceを高める講義もあるとのことですが、なぜ大切なのですか？
RISE’s curriculum incorporates material designed to improve children’s confidence in every class. Why you do you provide this and why it is important for children?
自信を高めることはよりよいコミュニケーションをとるために非常に重要です。通常の日本語でのやりとりとは異なる場面においても、子供たちはいつもと同じ様な感覚で英語を発話することが望ましいでしょう。入学当初から子供たちはクラスメイトに話しかけたり、クラスでのイベントをリードする機会を持ちます。自分に自信を持てることで、他者の前で話したり相手の話を聴いたり、あるいは大勢の前でいつも通り振る舞えるようになります。
Building confidence is a key to improving communication. As children communicate in different ways, they will feel more comfortable speaking in English. Right from the beginning children are presenting material to their classmates and leading events in the class. This allows students to become comfortable speaking and listening in front of others, and even in front of an audience.

アフタースクールのみの参加でも英語力は身に付きますか
If a student only takes classes after school will they still be able to learn English?
アフタースクールで学ぶだけでは、ネイティブスピーカーのようになるには十分ではありません。しかしながらアフタースクールの授業では、英語力はもちろんのこと、英語でコミュニケーションし学習するための基礎を構築することができます。生徒は自信を高めていくことで、英語で読み、英語でコミュニケーションし、英語で探求することを進んで行っていきます。彼らが高校あるいは大学に進み、再び英語で様々な場面を体験するとき、自分の英語力が秀でていることを実感するでしょう。
After school classes in themselves are not enough to become fluent in English like a native speaker, however these after school classes will create a foundation for students to further learn and communicate with English. Students will become more confident and willing to read in English, to communicate in English and to explore the English world. When they experience English again in their lives whether in High School or University, they will be prepared to excel in English language studies.

Are classes conducted twice a week enough?
週2回のコースであっても、英語の基礎を作り始めるのに役立ちます。生徒が「英語は大丈夫だ」と感じ、英語に自信が持てることを促していきます
Two times a week course will allow students to begin building a foundation in English, it will allow students to feel success in English, and become more confident in English.

英語を今まで習ったことがないのですが大丈夫でしょうか
Can a child be successful even if he/she has not studied English at all?
もしお子様が英語を学習したことがなければ、ビギナークラスからスタートし、順を追って学習することをおすすめします。RISEのカリキュラムはビギナーの生徒からアドバンスの生徒まで、すべてのレベルに合わせてデザインされています。
If a child has not studied English, they will be placed in our beginner classes and will progress from there. Rise’s curriculum is designed for all levels from beginners to advanced English language students.

親は英語が苦手なのですが、大丈夫でしょうか
Do you require certain level of English for parents?
端的に言うと、ご両親が英語を話せる必要はありません。ただし、ご両親には、ご自宅でも子供たちが英語で学習することを支援していただきたいと考えています。もしご両親が子供たちの学習をサポートすることができるのなら、とても効果的です。
The short answer is that we do not require parents to speak English, but we would like parents to encourage students to read in English outside of school and it would be beneficial if parents are able to help children in their studies.

Why it is difficult for Japanese people to improve in English?
確かに英語は学習するのが難しい言語だと考えられています。しかし、言語を学習することや何かを習得することはなんでも難しいといえるでしょう。何時間も専念して熱心に取り組むことが必要です。もし生徒が英語学習に興味がなかったり、時間を作らない場合は、楽しく熱中して学んでいる子供たちと同様の学習効果を上げることはできないでしょう。
Granted that the English language is considered a difficult language to learn but learning a language or learning anything is difficult. It takes many hours of hard work, dedication and enthusiasm. If a student is not interested in learning English, or doesn’t put in the time, they will not learn it as quickly or effectively as a child who is excited and has fun learning.

What is the most important things to learn second language?

One of the key components of the Rise curriculum is subject based immersion, which means that students will be learning, reading, writing, speaking and listening to English throughout each lesson.

Is the RISE curriculum also effective for Eiken?
RISEのカリキュラムは特定のテストを目指してデザインされたものではありませんが、クラスで培っていく自信と能力により、英検やその他のテストを容易にする英語力が身に付きます
The Rise curriculum is not designed to teach students a specific test, but the confidence and skill they gain in the English language will make Eiken and other English tests much easier.

Are there any negative effects for children when they learn English before they fully acquire their mother language?
子供たちは英語クラスの受講をしながらでも、母国語を習得していくでしょう。それは自分の子供がピアノレッスンを受けているからといって、日本語の習得がおろそかになるわけではないことと同じです。ピアノではなく言語だから混乱をきたしてしまいそうですが、生徒たちは2つの言語を効果的に使い分けていく方法を身に着けていきます。特に若い年齢で学習を始めると、よりスムーズに習得していけるのです
Children will acquire their mother tongue regardless of taking English classes, it is similar to asking if my child to takes piano lessons will it be difficult for them to learn Japanese. While there may be some confusion when switching between languages, students will learn to effectively switch back and forth between the two languages, especially if they begin their studies at a younger age.

By learning English at a very early age, is there any concern about causing a negative affect for children learning other subjects?

Quite the opposite by learning English at a very young age students will develop different ways to learn throughout the different subjects they will study. Research shows that bilingual students excel in many other areas of study throughout life.

Even if my child learns English at early age, what will happen if they stop learning English in order to study entrance exams for private elementary school?
学習を辞めた際には、学んだことのいくつかは忘れてしまうものです？しかし一度作られた土台があれば、将来再び英語を学ぶ際に、圧倒的に英語学習を簡単に進めることができるようになるでしょう。
Anytime you stop studying a subject you will forget some of what you have learned, but the foundation in English will make it easier to start learning English again at any time in the future.
